Our Elders/Deacons

Our Elders

We at Mt. Zion look to our Elders as the spiritual leaders. They set the tone and direction of the church using the Bible as their guide. Naturally, every member plays an important role in the well-being of the church, but the Elders are the ones who oversee it all. We love our Elders dearly at Mt. Zion and appreciate them for the sacrifice they make to do the work of an Elder. Each of our Elders meet all of the standards left in 1 Timothy 3, and they are great examples of what it means to be a Christian.

Shepherds’ Goals

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock (1 Peter 5:2-3).

It is our goal to mentor, communicate, and encourage our brothers and sisters to please God.  We want to empower people to use their God-given talents and gifts to His glory and to bless the flock through these gifts. Our desire is to help each member to grow to their fullest potential as they serve the Lord.

We see the role and work of elders to be shepherds who lead the flock, nurturing it and encouraging it to remain true to what pleases the Chief Shepherd and Father. We ask for your prayers as we continually seek to improve in shepherding this flock.  Pray for us so that we may equip the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11-12).

Doug Moomaw

Brother Doug is the newest of the three Elders. Doug has been a member at Mt. Zion for many years and has never lacked in service. Whether it be greeting members as they enter in, teaching Bible class, organizing canoe trips, or making a whole ton of homemade ice cream, brother Doug is always willing to help when asked.

Jimmy Medley

Brother Jimmy is the do-er of the bunch. If something needs to be done you can always count on him to do it. He may talk a lot, but it’s only because he cares.

Jeff Stutts

All of our Elders have big hearts, but when brother Jeff was born God gave him a heart twice as big as everyone else’s. When you’re down and out brother Jeff is the one to find. His wide smile and “good-ol’ country boy” demeanor makes him one-of-a-kind.

Our Deacons

At Mt. Zion we are blessed to have hard working deacons who help lead the  congregation in service and outreach. The titles below are more formalities than anything else. Each of these men will do anything if they are given an opportunity to serve.  When you walk in the door you will see all four of these men standing front and center waiting to greet everyone who walks in. Then they will ask you how they can help in any way. Come see for yourself!
