This week at Mt. Zion, we are having our Vacation Bible School! As always, we spend five wonderful days with these kids learning their names, their personalities, and their backgrounds. It has been a blessing to see the interaction between children from all different walks of life. They are an inspiration for us all because as we get older we understand that the world is a dangerous place and it is easy to be hurt. As a result, we form boundaries and barricades, we are hesitant and critical.
However, it is from these little children that we see what unconditional love and friendship was supposed to look like when God created humans thousands of years ago. In the beginning man walked with God and had no reason to fear or doubt for everything was good. I’m sure many of us know the story of the fall and realize how far man has drifted from the time of creation, but I hope that we can look at these children in wonder and awe, and mimic their great capacity for love and friendship.
“Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away” – Matthew 19:13–15
